Titles: Applied Personal Financial Concepts
By Patrick O'Meara
This book was designed as a first year college level course covering the concepts and theories that can be applied to personal finance in Canada. The focus of the course is on learning not just about various financial products that are available but also on the concepts, such as, the time value of money, underlying them.
Each chapter has a similar structure, beginning with learning outcome statements (LOS), which students should use as a guide to the core topics and concepts that they are expected to understand. Numerous examples are used throughout each chapter as a means of allowing students to actively learn.
Students are encouraged to have their financial calculator close at hand so that they can practice the calculations in each example. In addition, each chapter has a summary of the concepts covered, including a brief explanation.
each chapter contains homework questions that allow students to apply the knowledge they have gained in that chapter.
I hope that this text book and all of the material found on the much learning web site will be helpful in the learning process and that in then end any student taking this course will have developed a better understanding of personal financial products and how they can be used to better their financial lives.
