Fundamentals of Retail Credit - Preface

Offering: Fundamentals of Retail Credit

Titles: Fundamentals of Retail Credit in Canada

By Patrick O'Meara

Preface

Disclaimer: Nothing in this book, or in the material on the MuchLearning website, should be taken as financial advice from the author. This book, and all of its accompanying materials, are intended solely for academic and demonstration purposes. Any financial decision should be taken only after consulting a professionally qualified financial planner or advisor, and only after thoughtful consideration by all those affected by the financial decision.

This book was designed as a college-level course covering the fundamental areas of retail credit in Canada.

The focus of the course is on learning not just about the various credit products available in Canada, but also on the financial concepts such as the time value of money underlying them.

Each chapter has a similar structure, beginning with a learning outcome statement (LOS), which students should use as a guide to the core topics and concepts that they are expected to understand. Numerous examples are used throughout each chapter as a means of allowing students to actively learn the material. Students are encouraged to have their financial calculator close at hand so that they can practise the calculations in each example. At the end of each chapter, there are “Test Yourself” questions that allow students to check whether they have grasped the concepts covered in the chapter. In addition, each chapter has a summary of the concepts covered, including a brief explanation.

Each chapter has an eWorkbook, which includes audio lectures covering the important concepts discussed in the chapter, as well as practice questions. In addition, each chapter contains assignment questions that allow students to apply the knowledge they have gained in that chapter.

I hope that this textbook and all of the material found on the MuchLearning website will be helpful in the learning process and that students taking this course will have developed a better understanding of credit and how it can be properly used in their financial life.
